PROBLEM
An 18-month-old child fell and injured his elbow. What is your interpretation of these lateral and frontal views of the joint?

ANSWER
This child has a Salter-Harris type I fracture. At first glance, the appearance of the elbow suggests a dislocation; however, it is in fact a fracture of the distal humeral epiphysis with medial dislocation of the epiphysis and forearm.
