A 40-year-old man complains of unilateral wrist pain
and swelling of several months' duration. What is your
impression of the frontal and lateral projections of
his wrist?

ANSWER
The correct diagnosis is synovial osteochondromatosis
of the radioulnar joint. This is a form of chronic synovitis
that produces cartilaginous loose bodies within the
joint. It probably represents a metaplastic process.
In later stages, superimposed degenerative arthritis
may occur. Treatment is surgical.
