PROBLEM
A 20-year-old man was injured in a fall. What is your
interpretation of this frontal view of his knee?

ANSWER
The correct diagnosis is Segond fracture, as evidenced
by the presence of a small avulsed fragment of bone
derived from the lateral aspect of the tibial plateau
(arrow). This fracture indicates an avulsion of the
lateral capsular ligament and is also associated with
disruption of the anterior cruciate ligament.
